Ashby de la Zouch Castle

Ashby de la Zouch Castle is a renowned Royalist stronghold during the Civil War, the castle finally fell to Parliament in 1646, and was then made unusable. However an exciting underground passage from the kitchen to the tower can still be explored today! Pleasingly atmospheric ruins, really boosted by the bits that you can still explore.

The gardens are great for exploring with multiple levels and weird sunken features that are bound to get little imaginations going. The brave ones can also climb the 24m (78 feet) high tower, too! Eeek!

Some car parking available on site free of charge, but really not much. Visitors are therefore advised to park in the town car park and walk across to the castle.

Keep an eye on their upcoming events through their link, as there are re-enactment days and family trails often held throughout the year. A free audio guide is available on non-event days though so you can still get the most from your visit.

Things to note: you can take dogs on leads; theres a unisex loo; there are no pushchairs allow din side; picnicking is welcome outside; theres no cafe but there is a vending machine and an ice cream kiosk!
