Aira Force

Probably the most famous of the Lake District waterfalls, the main force falls 70 feet from below a stone footbridge. Aira Force provides a glimpse of a landscaped Victorian park with dramatic waterfalls, arboretum and rocks scenery! More than enough to satisfy the most adventurous family hikers but not too far off the main routes.

Throughout the rest of Ullswater Valley the watersports enthusiasts amongst you will certainly not be disappointed either, theres plenty of opportunity for wet fun and adventure on the water including canoeing, sailing, fishing and even swimming as its considered perfectly safe if youre careful. Loads of options for a summers day for active sorts!

An audio trail on cassette is available from the National Trust information vehicle (if you can catch it!) which is especially helpful for those with impaired vision, together with a talking postcard. Wheelchair and pram access to Aira Beck is possible too.

There is a cafe by the large car park, which contains information panels describing the pretty local area and its rich history. Leaflets are available describing the story of Aira Force and Gowbarrow, and family walks that leave from the car park, so if you go nice and early there are temptations for more hiking afterwards too!
